Chapters 21-25

Hello all.. hope everyone is enjoying the story! Here are some questions for the next few chapters:
Chap 21: Even though Tom is found guilty by the jury, all of the black people still stood as a sign of respect for Atticus. How do you explain this?
Chap 22: Miss Maudie tells Jem that she believes that Judge Taylor assigned Atticus to Tom's case for a reason. What would that reason(s) be?
Chap 23: At the end of the chapter, Jem says that maybe Boo Radley stays in his house because he wants to. Do you agree?
Chap 24: Atticus says that he figured Tom was tired of taking chances with white men jurors, and decided to take a chance of his own. What does this mean?
Chap 25: Describe what you think Mr. Underwood wrote in The Maycomb Tribune.

Chapter 21

The black people stand in respect for Atticus even though Tom was found guilty because he had done a good job defending Tom. Although he hadn't won, he had taken his reputation in the town at risk to defend a colored person, something no one had ever done before. Also, he hadn't just not tried to win the case for Tom, he had tried really hard to protect Tom, and put his heart and soul into making his case to prove him innocent. He made some great points during the trial, that probably would have won the case if it hadn't been during a time of racism so that is why the colored people rose even though Tom lost the curt case.

Chapter 21

The colored people still stood when Atticus left the court house after he lost his trial. This is because Atticua defended a colored man. This was very uncommon during a time of segregation. Whites and colored were seperated. And Atticus defending a black was one small step towards the end of segregation. The colored folks respected his attempts to help them and segregation.

Chapter 22

I think that Atticus was given the case because the judge knew he would accept the case. Also Atticus is very good lawyer and has a good shot at winning the case. Atticus also believes that everyone is equal and would treat this case like or better than another he has had before. The judge believed that this was a good oppertunity to show that discrimination should end and a person is a person no matter what they look like. This case was a good oppertunity because it would get high talk in the county

The colored people still stood even when Atticus lost because he tried really hard to defend Tom. Also he put his reputation, family and his life on the line by even trying to protect Tom. The African American community knew that he tried his best and never gave up. He also really believed in Tom, and that meant he took a colored man's word over a white mans word. That was uncommon in that time and place.

I think that judge talyor assigned Atticus to Tom's case for many reasons. One reason is that Atticus if anyone had the best chance of defending Tom Robinson's case, which is basiclly impossible to win. Also thought that Atticus would respect Tom Robinson and not dissrespesct him like most of Maycomb county. That Atticus would not turn his back on Tom's case just because he is an African American. Heck Tate even questioned why Atticus took this case because he has every thing at stake with this case. Judge Taylor knew that Atticus would reveal the truth about case and try to not get convicted of the crime because it was his word against two white men's. Therefore Atticus was the best choice to defend Tom's case and try to get Tom proven innocent

Chapter 23 :

I do agree with what Jem said about Boo staying in his house. This is because if Boo is in his house he does not have to have to hear the rumors being spread about him. As well, if he stays in his house there are only so many rumors that can be spread about him. Boo hasn't been in the outside world in such a long time it would be hard for him to interact with the people of Maycomb. The citizens of Maycomb may not also be considerate of Boo, because they have never taken the time to get to know him.
