Chapters 6-10

Chapter 6
Mr. Radley was standing right next to Jem on the back porch and walked right by Dill and Scout. Do you think Mr. Radley knew it was Jem, Dill and Scout?

Chapter 7
What do people do to holes in trees when the trees are dying? If Atticus said that it did not look like the tree was dying, why do you think Mr. Radley said that it was?

Chapter 8
Aside from Miss Maudie’s house buring to the ground, what do you think Atticus was afraid of if they did not get the fire put out? What could have happened to the surrounding houses?

Chapter 9
After hearing Scout’s side of the story, Uncle Jack was furious with Francis. Even though he knew that Atticus would want to know the whole story, why do you think Uncle Jack kept his secret with Scout?

I am responding to the chapter 10 question why is it a sin to kill a mokcingbird? My answer is because they are harmless. They make beautiful music and dont hurt anyone. They are pretty birds that make noise and there is no reason to kill them. That is what I believe is a sin for killing a mockingbird.

I am responding to the chapter 6 question. the question was Mr. radley was standing right next to jem on the back porch and walked right by dll and scoout. Do you think mr. radley knew it was jem, scout, and dill? I do believe that she didnt know it was them. Boo hasnt gone out of the house or is rarely out of the house so he doesnt know who they are. This means the parents wouldnt know who they are because there is no connection between them.

Chapter 7:
When trees are dying many people chop them down and use the wood. Though it appeared to the Finches that the Radley tree was not dying Mr. Radley said it was. He told Scout and Jem that when trees begin to rot you put cement in the hole of the tree to make them live longer. I think that the reason he did it though was because he found out Boo was putting objects in the tree for Scout and Jem so he filled it up so that Boo would not able to communicate with other people anymore.

It is a sin to kill a mockingbird for many reasons. One is that mockingbirds are harmless birds. They also make beautiful music and sounds. That is why it is a sin to kill a mockingbird.

People cut down trees when trees are dying so as not to just let the tree sit and rot. If Atticus said it didn't look like the tree was dying I think Mr. Radely said the tree was dying to cover up for puring cement into the tree hole. I think he did this to stop Boo from giving Jem and Scout anymore gifts.

Chapter 8

Aside from Miss Maudie's house buring down, I think that Atticus was afraid that the fire would spread and damage or burn down the other houses.

Great comments everyone!

Bing B and Sean G: That is correct! It is a sin to kill a mocking bird because they are harmless and they sound so beautiful when they sing. It would be just wrong to kill something so beautiful.

Ryan F: You are correct. Atticus was afraid that if they did not stop the fire it would spread to the other houses.

Julianne and Ryan: Very good! When a tree is dying, many people will plug the hole with cement. I agree with you--I think that Mr. Radley did fill it in because of other reasons!
