Chapter 17

Atticus asked Mr. Ewell to write his name. He asked him to do this because Mayella was beaten on the right side of her face and someone who was a lefty would hit her with his left hand. When Mr. Ewell wrote with his left hand that showed that he was a lefty and that he could of done the crime.

Hello,

I hope that you are enjoying the story! I agree with your response. Atticus did ask Mr. Ewell to write his name because of the way Mayella had been beaten and when Atticus, as well as everyone else, saw that Mr. Ewell was left handed, they knew that he could have in fact committed the crime that Tom Robinson was being charged for.

Chapter 17

Atticus asked him to write his name on the paper. he asked this because he knew that the person that hurt Mayella was left handed. When Mr. Ewell wrote he ended up being left handed which means he could have also hit Mayella

Atticus was a very smart man for pointing out to the jury that Bob Ewell was left handed. This allowed Atticus to try to prove that the crime was committed by someone other than Tom Robinson, especially since the bruises were on Mayella's right side of her face.
